HOW DO YOU WE DO?
We are working to foster a culture of environmental stewardship and operational efficiency in our fields and operations, as well as to progressively reduce our carbon footprint, in order to help mitigate the effects of climate change.
Because we want to deliver the best products—ones that not only meet all quality standards in the orchards but also have the least possible impact on the environment—our experts provide specialized agronomic consulting for different species.
We conduct regular technical visits to the orchards that supply us, providing guidelines to ensure maximum productivity and quality.
We participate in ENEL’s Non-Conventional Renewable Energy Certificate Program, which guarantees that 100% of the grid-supplied energy consumed by the company comes from renewable sources.
In addition, we maintain an Energy Management System based on ISO 50.001, which will enable us to reduce our energy consumption per metric ton processed.
We want to mitigate the impact that our direct and indirect emissions have on the environment. To that end, and in order to identify where we are generating the most emissions, we have begun measuring the carbon footprint of our organic apple orchards and the packaging process for that product. In addition, since 2021, we have been measuring and offsetting the emissions from the transportation of our organic apples, earning the Carbon Neutral Delivery seal for two consecutive years.
Because we are aware of the water shortage our country is facing, at Copefrut we are concerned about water consumption. That is why, starting in 2022, we began measuring the water footprint of our strategic producers and plants. This initial assessment will serve as the starting point for developing a comprehensive management plan that will enable us to increase water use efficiency.
We aim to use more eco-friendly materials, and to that end, our procurement team is implementing substitution and circular economy initiatives. We have developed an index that evaluates the recyclability of our packaging based on its purity, quality, and end-use, which helps us identify gaps and make sustainable decisions. To improve recyclability, we’ve eliminated waxes from our boxes and use compostable labels and bags. We also collaborate with universities and packaging suppliers, and we hold the international FSC A000522 certification.
